Student Opportunities

The Program Support Department welcomes students from the Co-operative Education program through a Simcoe County Secondary School or post secondary program in Recreation, Activation, Social Service, Gerontology, Physiotherapy or Rehabilitation.

Registered Nursing (RN / RPN) and Personal Support Worker (PSW) students will be oriented by and report directly to the Resident Care Department via the Director of Resident Care and designated Resident Care Supervisors i.e. Clinical Resource Nurse.

Placement opportunities also exist in Food Services.'

Secondary Schools also require students to complete 40 hours of community service hours to successfully graduate.

The IOOF Seniors Homes Inc. welcomes continued affiliation with educational organizations to provide a community service and learning opportunity, field placement, co-op or internship for students and an enriching experience for the Residents.

Community involvement is a high school requirement. Volunteering at the IOOF Seniors Homes is is a rewarding way to earn your community service hours. Your time and talents will have a far-reaching effect on the community.

Volunteering with us offers you lots of opportunities – to build new friendships that you never knew were possible, to get a first-hand look at working in long-term care, to learn about leadership from people who have been leaders throughout their lives, and to walk into a room and make someone smile.

If you’re interested in working with seniors as a career choice, you can join nurses, medical staff, social workers, recreation staff, music therapists, and physiotherapists at work.

Time Commitment

As a volunteer, we ask you to make a minimum 40 hour per year commitment to the program — but you are welcome to volunteer for as long as you like after that, especially if you have developed a sense of connection with our Residents. Our Director of Program Support & Volunteer services is ready to meet with you and help you find a volunteer program that is right for you. We hope you can join us to share your talents, so that we can help you build new skills and strengthen the community.
